SUMMARY:ECO:DIGIT Closing Event
DESCRIPTION:Digital technologies as both drivers and burdens for environmen
 tal sustainability\n\nDigitalisation faces a key dilemma: on the one hand, 
 digital technologies are essential for the green transition; on the other, 
 their own environmental footprint is growing exponentially. The ICT sector 
 already consumes 2.1% of global electricity – a figure set to rise due to A
 I and the IoT. At the same time, 42% of digital emissions remain invisible 
 in GHG accounting standards, as they are attributed to other sectors as ‘gr
 ey emissions’.\n\nFrom 2026, companies will be required to transparently do
 cument their IT infrastructure under the CSRD. The question is no longer wh
 ether, but how digital systems can be assessed. This is precisely where the
  ECO:DIGIT collaborative project comes in: it develops and tests reproducib
 le methods for measuring the environmental footprint of digital services – 
 as an open-source solution for all.\n\nWarm invitation to the closing event
