Project Contents

Over a period of three years, the project partners will develop a new approach to the life cycle assessment of digital services. This will be made possible by clearly defined responsibilities and interfaces. The focus is on integrating the cloud, edge and mobile measurement environments into a digital twin generator.

Work Packages

Planning, project management, control and coordination: The collaboration of the consortium internally as well as the communication with external stakeholders (Project Sponsor, BMFTR) is coordinated by the GI in cooperation with all partners over the entire duration of the project.

Leadership:

Development of a methodology to comprehensively balance energy and resource consumption for software applications in data centres, edge computing, mobile networks, mobile devices and networked applications.

Leadership:

The aim of the work package is to develop an evaluation environment (test bench). Arbitrary applications are to be 'deployed' in the test bench and automatically executed via defined use cases. Depending on the input parameters during the analysis, such as CPU usage or hardware used, the CO2e footprint of the entire digital system will be automatically determined.

Leadership:

The aim of the work package is to create a software library that fulfils the function of analysing containerised software solutions to be tested for various scenarios in a virtualised cloud environment with regard to their resource and energy consumption.

Leitung:

In edge computing applications, two transformation phases are analysed: i) from task definition to implementation of a concrete software solution, ii) execution of this software solution on edge devices (with varying hardware equipment).

Leitung:

The aim of this work package is to create a software library that determines resource and energy requirements for parameterisable network scenarios (with distributed computing resources).

Leadership:

The aim of the work package is to create a software library capable of analysing mobile applications for the two dominant platform operators (Android and iOS) in terms of their resource and energy consumption.

Leadership:

The goal of this work package is the testing of the test bench and the development of a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) – initially for internal use and, as it matures, for market launch.

Leadership:

Establishment of a new set of metrics and methods, as well as tools for their measurement, which allow for a holistic assessment of the energy consumption and CO2e footprint of digital applications.

Leadership:

Achieve a high level of public visibility through i) clear positioning in the context of digitisation, ii) networking with the core target group and iii) dissemination of target group specific information.
