CNCF Global Week of Cloud Native Sustainability

The CNCF Cloud Native Sustainability Week, organized by the CNCF Technical Advisory Group for Environmental Sustainability (TAG ENV) in collaboration with the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF), will take place from October 7th to 13th, 2024. This global event promotes environmental sustainability within the cloud native industry and the open source space, featuring both local in-person meetups and virtual sessions. The initiative highlights the importance of sustainable practices in the tech industry, encouraging collaboration across continents to foster environmentally conscious innovations.

Building on the success of the 2023 edition, the upcoming Sustainability Week will focus on further integrating green solutions into cloud native technologies, with participants from around the world discussing the intersection of technology and sustainability.

ECO:DIGIT will also be represented at the event. Maria Bauer, Project Lead at the Open Source Business Alliance, will deliver a presentation on the topic:
"ECO:DIGIT – Measurability and Transparency in Resource Consumption of Distributed Software Systems."
The presentation will explore the challenges of making the carbon footprint and resource consumption of digital systems measurable, particularly within cloud computing. Bauer will introduce ECO:DIGIT, a project aimed at creating a practical, open method to record and evaluate energy consumption across the entire lifecycle of digital systems. This project seeks to enhance transparency, enabling companies to adopt more sustainable digital practices in line with the 2030 Agenda’s goals for sustainable industrialization, responsible consumption, and climate protection (SDGs 9, 12, and 13).
