ECO:DIGIT: Three Years of Research for Sustainable Software – Join Us!
What’s the ecological footprint of your software? The ECO:DIGIT project has developed an open-source methodology and tools to measure the environmental impact of distributed software applications—covering energy and water use, rare minerals, toxic emissions, and e-waste. All results are now publicly available!
Last tuesday, we hosted our final event, where we presented three years of research findings. Beyond sharing our results, we discussed how to advance them further to make software more sustainable. All methodologies, measurement procedures, and tools are open source and available here and on GitHub.
In a consortium with adesso, Open Source Business Alliance, Siemens, and the Öko-Institut, we developed a methodology that considers not only energy consumption but also water, minerals, rare metals, toxic substances, and e-waste.
