INFORMATIK 2024: Digital Sovereignty and the Role of ECO:DIGIT
At the INFORMATIK-Festival 2024 in Wiesbaden, the topic of digital sovereignty was at the forefront. Numerous panels and workshops discussed the measures and competencies necessary to ensure sovereign digital usage.
From September 24 to 26, the INFORMATIK-Festival 2024 took place in Wiesbaden, where various workshops and panel discussions thoroughly explored the topic of digital sovereignty.
For instance, in the panel "Data Centers as Infrastructure for Technological Sovereignty," Prof. Dr. Kristina Sinemus (Hessian Minister for Digitalization and Innovation), Christine Regitz (President of the Society for Computer Science), Dr. Manuela Urban (Open Source Business Alliance), and Christian Schmitz (plusserver, Alliance for Strengthening Digital Infrastructures, eco - Association of the Internet Industry) discussed the growing importance of digital infrastructures for the economy and society. They addressed the challenges of maintaining Germany's technological sovereignty while also pursuing climate policy goals.In the context of the panel, the research project ECO:DIGIT was introduced, which can significantly contribute to sustainable digital sovereignty through the disclosure of energy and hardware consumption.
The project also had its own booth, where numerous inspiring conversations took place. Conference participants showed great interest in the project's goals and initiatives, which aims to establish itself as a key player in the debate on digital sovereignty.
