Reading for Cold Days: ECO:DIGIT in Trade Journals

For anyone who’d rather stay cozy at home with good reading material due to the weather—and dive deeper into ECO:DIGIT—here are three articles from 2025 in trade journals that highlight the importance of open cloud infrastructures for a sustainable IT future.

In FifF Kommunikation 2025, ECO:DIGIT was featured as an example of innovative approaches in digital transformation. The article emphasized how open-source solutions not only promote transparency but also enhance resource efficiency.

The piece "Open Clouds for a Future-Proof IT: How Open Source Enables Transparency and Sustainability in ECO:DIGIT" in Volume 49 of the Women and Informatics Working Group (Gesellschaft für Informatik) explores how the project creates alternatives to Big Tech. Our project partners, Josefine Kipke and Felix Kronlage-Dammers, point to alarming forecasts: By 2030, the energy consumption of data centers could double to 1,065 TWh—a compelling reason to advance sustainable IT solutions.

The article "Sovereign Cloud Stack vs. Hyperscalers" in the October 2025 special edition of Connect Professional focuses on the practical implementation of open cloud infrastructures.

Happy reading!
