Project ECO:DIGIT honoured at the GreenTech Innovation Competition

On October 19 the ECO:DIGIT project received an award from Franziska Brantner, State Secretary in the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action(BMWK). ECO:DIGIT is one of 21 projects that received an award as part of the GreenTech Innovation Competition's technology program. With this program, the BMWK aims to establish Germany and Europe as leading locations for digital technologies and associated business models and thus contribute to climate and environmental protection goals.

The ECO:DIGIT project is a cooperation between the Gesellschaft für Informatik e.V. (German Informatics Society), the OSB Alliance (Open Source Business Alliance), adesso SE, Siemens and the Öko-Institut e.V. The goal of ECO:DIGIT is to develop a software test bench that enables objective measurement and comparability of different technologies and operating models (cloud, edge and mobile) as well as their life cycle assessment. This is intended to transparently display the resource and energy consumption of software systems as well as the entire digital infrastructure. As part of the GreenTech Innovation Competition ceremony, Maria Bauer (OSB Alliance) pitched the project to interested parties from the political sector and the GreenTech community.

The official kick-off event took place on November 7th and the team is looking forward to exciting project work in the coming years in order to help promote green software development for a sustainable digital transformation.
